Karthik Sethuraman

Karthik Sethuraman is the Chief Operating Office for Standard Chartered nexus, a Banking-as-a-Service proposition by Standard Chartered. Based in Singapore, Karthik leads the Operations function encompassing the overall platform delivery, risk, governance and customer success for the white-label plug and play banking solution with a vision to redefine the banking experience for customers globally by digitally marrying ecosystems to banks. The first market is Indonesia, where the Bank has announced two partners, Bukalapak and Sociolla, with further plans to expand in the region.

Karthik is a business leader with over 30 years of international experience in FinTech, Digital Banking, Retail, Private & Wealth Management. Karthik started his tenure in Standard Chartered by leading the merger of American Express Bank’s Cash and Payments business with Standard Chartered and has since held multiple leadership roles in the Bank. Between 2010–2018, Karthik led the Private Bank Technology & Operations agenda globally, the Controls and Assurance function for Financial Crime & Compliance, and oversaw the delivery of a large transformation for the Retail Digital Program. In those roles, he led cross-functional, cross-border teams to deliver multiple capabilities for the Bank, including the first Staff Service and Investment Suitability portals for Private Banking and more than 200 digital capabilities transforming the online and mobile bank offering across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Prior to that, Karthik has held multiple roles in large multi-national organisations like Citibank, Bank of America and American Express. His roles span across consumer finance, Wealth and Private Banking, and Institutional Banking, covering product, sales, operations, technology, compliance, and transformation.

Karthik has worked in Singapore, India, New York, Tokyo and Frankfurt. He holds a Post-Graduate Diploma on Finance from Loyola Institute of Business Administration and is a graduate of Physics from the University of Madras.
